What is pachislot?

Pachislot (パチスロ), also written pachislo and often described in English as a Japanese slot machine, is a reel-based amusement machine found in Japanese pachinko parlors. A player places a normal bet, starts the reels with a lever and stops the three reels with separate buttons. Depending on the model, play uses physical medals or electronic credits.

It is different from pachinko, which uses steel balls and a launch handle. It also differs from a typical automatic casino slot because stopping the reels and following on-screen navigation are part of normal play. How does a Japanese slot machine work?

1. Use the lending unit beside the machine to obtain medals or electronic credits.
2. Press the normal bet control, start the reels and stop all three reels.
3. Follow displayed stop-order prompts during bonuses, AT, ART or other special states.

Pachislot types, settings and payout rates

Pachislot is not a single game system. A-Type machines are primarily bonus-focused, while AT machines use Assist Time during specified states and ART machines use Assist Replay Time. Smart Pachislot (スマスロ) refers to electronically managed medals; the exact bonus or AT structure still depends on the individual model.

A setting is an internal configuration selected by the hall, not a difficulty option chosen by the player. It can change selected probabilities. No. A ceiling is a model-specific condition that leads to a specified benefit; it is not a universal spending limit or a guarantee of profit. A bonus ceiling does not necessarily guarantee entry into AT.
